Watchdog, Google build constructive dialogue on content screening
MOSCOW, Feb 7 (PRIME) -- The Russian communications service has built a constructive dialogue with Google regarding filtering out banned content, the authority’s press secretary Vadim Ampelonsky told PRIME on Thursday.
“The dialogue suits us currently,” Ampelonsky said.
The authority did not say how the parties cooperate or whether the U.S. company joined the watchdog’s register of banned information or not.
Google earlier paid a 500,000 ruble fine imposed by the communications service for ignoring the law obliging the U.S. company to delete links to illegal information from search results.
Business daily Vedomosti reported earlier on Thursday citing an employee of an unnamed Internet company that Google had started deleting websites that are banned in Russia from search results. Google didn’t join the register, but agreed with the communications service to be daily updated on the list on forbidden resources, the daily reported.
